SPRING HOPE — One of Nash County’s freshman state lawmakers is set to host a town hall-style meeting Thursday at the Spring Hope Community Building.

State Rep. James Gailliard, a Democrat, represents N.C. House District 25, which includes most of Nash County including Spring Hope. He said he needs the community’s help to draft his legislative agenda, so he’s holding a series of meetings across the district to hear directly from the people.

The Spring Hope meeting is set for 6-7 p.m. at the community building, 104 Community Drive. The meeting will be streamed via Facebook Live at

Similar sessions are set for Nashville on Sept. 26 and Rocky Mount on Oct. 3.

No topic is off limits, with town hall sessions set to address the state budget, policy updates, Medicaid transformation and expansion and redistricting, Gailliard said.

Shortly after elected in November, Gailliard said he planned to bring together folks from both sides of the aisle, end gridlock and get something done in Raleigh.

Gailliard, who garnered 51% of the vote in last year’s general election, said he focused on the economy, environment and equity for everyone during his campaign.

A graduate of Morehouse College, Gailliard said education remains a priority. He plans to look at rural education funding formulas and figure out how to change education to benefit everyone statewide.

The pastor of Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount, Gailliard has five children and two granddaughters.
